BILBAO BECOMES SEVENTH BEST MEDIUM-SIZE CITY IN THE WORLD IN GLOBAL DESTINATION SUSTAINABILITY INDEX
Bilbao has become the seventh best city in the world in the Global Destination Sustainability Index, where, this year, it has risen to 24th position. It is the first city in Spain to appear in this international ranking of the 100 cities most committed to the creation of joint strategies with respect to social, economic and environmental sustainability.
This result implies a climb of nine positions with respect to 2022 and a huge leap from the 42nd position obtained in 2021, the year in which Bilbao joined Global Destination Sustainability.
BILBAO, CHOSEN TO HOST THE EUROCITIES 2024 ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT FORUM
On 23, 24, and 25 October 2024, Bilbao will officially host the Eurocities Economic Development Forum, bringing together mayors and leaders of the leading European cities, as well as many decision-makers and officials from the European Union, to address various issues related to innovation and the role of cities in tackling significant global challenges.
The Economic Development Forum is an annual meeting that serves as a platform for exchanging ideas and best practices on urban development, local economic policies, innovation and entrepreneurship, and international economic relations. The aim is to position cities as key players in economic matters to ensure citizens’ well-being, equality, social cohesion, etc.
BILBAO EXHIBITION CENTRE TO HOST THE ENLIT EUROPE CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION IN 2025
Iberdrola has entered into a strategic alliance with Enlit, a media and events company at the forefront of energy transition in Europe.
Thanks to this partnership, the fascinating city of Bilbao will host the Enlit Europe conference and exhibition in 2025. The event will take place at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre.
EUSKADI ADVOCATES BEFORE THE UNITED NATIONS FOR THE PROMOTION OF THE ODS IN LOCAL AND REGIONAL GOVERNMENTS
A delegation from the Basque Government and Bilbao City Council, led by the Secretary-General for Social Transition and Agenda 2030, Jonan Fernández, and the Mayor of Bilbao, Juan Mari Aburto, is currently in New York participating in the events organised on the occasion of the United Nations SDG Summit.
The summit is intended as a call to action to regain momentum for the 2030 Agenda and is particularly relevant given that it comes at the halfway point of the deadline set by the UN to achieve its 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
