BILBAO EXHIBITION CENTRE TO HOST THE ENLIT EUROPE CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION IN 2025

Iberdrola has entered into a strategic alliance with Enlit, a media and events company at the forefront of energy transition in Europe.

Thanks to this partnership, the fascinating city of Bilbao will host the Enlit Europe conference and exhibition in 2025. The event will take place at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre.

Before then, the two companies will work together to highlight the European energy sector’s challenges and opportunities.

This alliance will be launched this year in Paris during this year’s Enlit Europe, where Elena León Muñoz, Managing Director of Networks of the Iberdrola Group, and Nicolas Arcauz, Director of Smart Grids at Iberdrola Spain, will be among the high-level speakers.

Asís Canales Abaitua, Iberdrola’s Director of People and Services, said the collaboration “aligns perfectly with our mission to promote sustainable energy solutions and contribute to the global energy transition. We are delightedto bring Enlit Europe to Bilbao in 2025”.

Paddy Young, Director of Enlit, hailed the partnership with Iberdrola as “a significant milestone demonstrating the trust and credibility that our brand has garnered in a short period.”

This year’s edition of Enlit Europe in Paris will be the third iteration of the event, which next year will travel to Milan before coming to Bilbao in 2025. Enlit also manages three media brands: Power Engineering International, Smart Energy International, and Enlit World.

For Young, Bilbao “will provide an exceptional setting for this event, and Iberdrola’s participation will undoubtedly enhance the experience for exhibitors and visitors alike,” adding that the collaboration will leverage Iberdrola’s extensive experience and network in the energy sector to reinforce Enlit’s commitment to delivering high-quality content programmes in sync with the evolving energy market.

Traditionally, there has been a fruitful public-private partnership in the Basque Country. Regional authorities, including the Basque Government, the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, and the Bilbao City Council, are collaborating and committed to the success of this comprehensive energy event.

Canales added that “Iberdrola is dedicated to clean energy solutions and sustainable grids and is looking forward to joining Enlit to shape the future of energy dialogue and innovation. Iberdrola’s Global Smart Grids Innovation Hub, located in Bilbao, has thus established itself as a global centre of innovation and knowledge in smart grids to help respond to the challenges of the energy transition. The centre is a driving force for innovation, combining Iberdrola’s technological capacity with more than 80 collaborating entities and companies.”

IÑIGO URKULLU, PRESIDENT OF THE BASQUE COUNTRY, AND CHRISTIAN PRUDHOMME, GENERAL DIRECTOR OF THE TOUR DE FRANCE, KICK OFF A HISTORIC EDITION IN THE BASQUE COUNTRY

Iñigo Urkullu, President of the Basque Government, and Christian Prudhomme, General Director of the Tour de France, featured in the ribbon cutting ceremony that preceded the first stage of the Tour de France 2023 in the Basque Country.

The 1st stage of the 110th edition of the Tour de France is starting and finishing in Bilbao. The 182-kilometre route throughout Bizkaia is circular and winding. If we add the 3,300 metres of accumulated altitude gain to the nerves, excitement and effort of the opening stage, the first day will offer us a vibrant show.

On a route that links the Cantabrian coast and the Urdaibai biosphere and crosses emblematic places, such as Gernika-Lumo, the pack will have to overcome the peaks of Laukiz, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, Morga, Vivero and Pike Bidea, the latter a ‘wall’ of 2 kilometres at an average of 9% with stretches of 15% gradient, some 10 kilometres from the finish line, all of which form part of the points classification. Who will get to wear the first yellow jersey of the 2023 Tour?
